The original TCG player journal
Codex began as a personal project created to solve a simple problem: we know how valuable it can be to regularly review our matches, but building that habit is not always easy.
Competitive and pro players across TCGs all know that consistently winning takes more than just having a decent deck and practising. Taking notes and reviewing matches is how you improve and keep yourself at the top of your game. But often note taking is inconsistent, inefficient, or just nonexistent. Players would open up blank notebooks, unsure of what to write or which parts of the game they should be thinking about. The solution that Codex created is a guided player journal to not only help pro players track their matches easily and effectively but also to make journaling and match reviewing accessible to all players. I really believe that advancing the skills of players within a TCG community helps retain players and is good for the competitive scene too. As an active player of several TCGs, this is genuinely important to me.
Built to help every player improve
Every Codex Journal includes tools and prompts designed to encourage you to learn from every match, track progression and performance, and develop the habit of reflecting on your choices, your play style and your deck. Using a Codex Journal makes it easy to log everything and to look back at what went right or what went wrong, what you could have done differently, how your choices and key moments turned the match and what you could work on or change. Not only that, but each journal has a detailed life tracker and, for TCGs where note taking is allowed or required during a game, the journal has a space for this too.
What started as one journal has grown into a wider range of products shaped by real conversations with players, creators, judges, teams and local game stores.

Every Codex Journal is tailored to the TCG that it is aimed at, from the life or score tracker and notes sections to the match reviews and the covers.
The focus is on clear layouts, practical features and thoughtful prompts that help players capture what matters, without making the process feel complicated or overwhelming.
The journals are designed to support every stage of a player’s journey—from learning and testing sessions to the highest-stakes competitive matches their TCG has to offer.

Codex Journals is an independently owned business built with genuine care for the communities we serve.
I remain closely involved in the design, development and customer support behind the brand. Whether someone is purchasing their first journal or working with us on a custom project, my aim is to make every interaction feel honest, thoughtful and personal.
